When it was introduced in the 1950's, the standard television set was big, bulky and it sat on the floor. In later years, homeowners requested lighter sets that could be placed on stands or in cabinets. But it was not until recently that the television finally got in shape and lost some weight.
We are speaking of course about flat screen models. On average, a flat screen model weights only about forty pounds. That is only about a quarter of the weight of a traditional big screen set. And because they are much lighter, flat screen sets no longer have to sit on the floor.
In fact, most flat screen sets can be hung on the wall. Let us take a moment to go over installation for anyone who owns a new Plasma or LCD set. These sets are actually mounted on the wall with screws and Fasteners. More often than not, the mount may need to be purchased separately. A standard mount is made of metal and it is screwed directly to the back of the flat screen set. The set must then be screwed into the wall.
Of course, you cannot screw a forty pound television set into the sheetrock alone. It will not hold. You must first locate the metal stud. Once the stud has been found, the television is a cinch to secure.
